| | By now everybody knows that Sarah Palin resigned as governor of Alaska today. I didn't vote for her and John McCain in the last election, but I didn't really vote against them, either. I voted for Obama and Biden, and, since I only have one vote,.... You get the picture. I thought Palin's announcement was rambling, confused, and almost incomprehensible. It was almost as though it was ad lib, and I felt as though it was quite painful for her to make. The commentary started immediately, of course, and the pundits wondered why she would have done such a thing. Some said she's going to use this whole thing to make a mint on the speaking circuit and with a lucrative book deal. Others wondered if there's some kind of personal problem--e.g., a health problem of her own or of one of her children; a deep, dark scandal that is about to break; or something else of dire significance. I personally hope she did it to make money. I'm glad McCain and Palin weren't elected, and I think it's a bit ironic that she would have chosen the day before the Fourth of July to resign. But I suspect we won't be seeing her on the national stage ever again, and we may never know the real reason she did what she did. ED |
